Tangmere v Ashling 28th June2009 Match drawn This match followed the pattern of recent games with the Ashling batsmen setting a stiff target and the opposition making little effort to do anything other than play for a draw. There will be little timed cricket when our run of home games begins. Nic Loubser once again hogged the batting all afternoon, spending two hours getting to 63 (his fifth consecutive fifty-plus) while Matt Sleep (54)made his third consecutive half century. No-one else made a huge contribution although Paul Colley felt aggrieved at being given out lbw on 17. Blow bowled 15 overs for Tangmere and finished on 3 for 53. Danger man Justin Murray was removed cheaply, and with another wicket going down early, victory was in the air. No such luck; J Bain came to the crease and stayed there until the end on 74 not out. Once again Ashling were unable to break through, despite some comedy bowling towards the end where Tangmere refused to be coaxed out of their shells.
