Stansted Park v Ashling 22nd May 2011 Ashling won by 5 wickets This was a game that we really had no business winning following an abysmal fielding performance. The weather was cold and blowy, and fingers were cold, but that surely couldn't excuse countless dropped catches and a failure to stop anything in the field. The Stansted batsmen couldn't believe their luck as Graham (76) and Khan (36) enjoyed all of their many innings as they were repeatedly put down by a side who couldn't catch a cold in a bucket. We didn't even bowl that badly, and Henry Slatter's 2 for 26 was the best effort. 179 looked a big total and tea was a quiet affair. Fortunately Nic Loubser picked this game to find some form, and his 45 before being entirely correctly given out lbw by me had set us up with a chance. We had slid to 93 for 5 by the time Tom Ballingal came to the crease, but all the whileJohannes Wentzels had been quietly racking up the runs. 10 overs later, Johannes hit the winning run to complete his 50, with Tom 49 not out at the other end. Despite it all, Ashling had won.
