Singleton v Ashling 20th August 2006 Singleton 250-5, Ashling 145 Thompson 3-40; Sleep 56, G.Bleach 39 For the second week running holidays and non-availabity meant that Ashling could only muster nine players for this fixture. On a grey and overcast day it was probably a good toss to lose; we lost it and Singleton opted to bat. It looked a decent decision as Doel and Perry put on over 60 for the first wicket before Doel was well caught by James Ford running in from long off. All of the Singleton batsmen made a useful contribution with the exception of the unfortunate Neil, a victim of one of Ford's three sharp catches on the day. Perry can consider himself even more unfortunate, being caught and bowled by Chris Thompson (8-1-40-3) for 99! 250 looked like a total we weren't going to get... After the fairly rapid
departure of Harvey (4) and Thomson (5), Matt Sleep and
Nic Loubser started putting a partnership together which
yielded over 50 runs before Sleep was caught on the
boundary for 56 and Loubser was bowled around his legs
for 24. George Bleach then took control, crafting a
chanceless 39 including two huge sixes over mid off
before being last man out. Mick Bleach went first ball,
Matt Stone looked stylish but could only make 3 despite
sticking around to give Bleach a chance of a 50, and
Derek Grieshaber remained on 1 not out at the end. |
