Ashling v Ship Shop Cavaliers
29th August 2010
Cavaliers 190 for 9 (35 0vers) , Ashling 156 for 8 (35
overs)
Cavaliers won by 34
runs
Injuries and non-availability meant that Ashling were
forced to field a makeshift team including three twelve
year-olds and a notable lack of bowling. Only Steve
Harvey (1-52) and Nic Loubser (1-24) could be considered
regular bowlers, and Steve was bowling injured (honest!)
The Cavaliers batsmen showed no mercy to the weakened
Ashling attack with S. Wainwright getting 79 and R.
Wainwright 35 in a huge total of 190. Two highlights were
the three catches held by debutant Mark Wright, and Paul
Colley taking 5 for 41 with his donkey-droppers
("back of the hand forward spinners") having
taken off the wicketkeeping pads.
The
asking-rate was nearly six an over, and Ashling kept it
up for a while. Nic Loubser (69) took on the bowling and
Dan Cooke (10), Chris Cranna (6), Mark Grace (7), and
Chris Cranna (6) offered support. Seb Cross made 23 not
out and Steve Harvey 17, but ultimately the target was
too stiff once Nic had departed the crease.
And so
the long-running unbeaten run comes to an end. Never
mind. Keep calm and carry on.
