Ashling v Beeding and Bramner Sam Mellor Twenty20 tournament at Arundel Castle 3rd August 2011 B&B won by 73 runs Ashling Cricket Club finally hit the big time! A big crowd, glossy programme, meals included etc. The draw was made and we were paired in the first semi final against Beeding and Bramner who had done nothing to endear themselves to anyone by lavishing large sums of money on new kit and executive transport but opting out of anything which would have helped the organisers, such as ordering the lunch (which was excellent!). Anyway, it could have all been different. Tom Ballingal immediately had them in trouble and took two early wickets including a sharp one in the slips to Nic Loubser. Steve Harvey took a wicket with his first ball (garbage later though!) and with Adam Shaul chipping in with two, at 35 for 5 things were going distinctly our way. Unfortunately that was as good as it got. B&B clearly had strength in depth and Barnes made an unbeaten 42. 138 looked like a tall order in 18 overs and it looked like the miserable sods has got it wrapped up. Simon Hutchin gave us some early hope taking 9 off the first over with Nic not hanging about either. The writing was on the wall when Simon was outrageously given out run out despite having run past the stumps by the time the bails came off. Nic could only make 18 and what followed was a procession. Never mind, we'll give it another go next year.
