Salthill v Ashling

24th July 2011

Ashling 174 for 8; Salthill 68

Ashling won by 106 runs

At last a win! This was a good all-round performance with both bat and ball. Nic Loubser made an uncharacteristically slow start, and was annoyed to give a catch on 11 just as he was setting his sights. Simon Hutchin made a stylish 22 and Fergus MacLehose added 21 before losing his wicket. It was Johannes Wentzel who was the man of the innings however. His 63 not out allowed Ashling to accelerate what had been fairly sluggish scoring to post a decent total at tea.

Fergus was bowling at his fiery best and knocked the opener's stumps clean out of the ground and Adam Shaul, Steve Harvey, Henry Slatter and Jake Brown all chipped in with a wicket each. Rob Lawrence was brought on late in the innings and set about mopping up the Salthill tail, taking 4 for 12 and being stranded on a hat-trick ball until the next game. It was ironic that Ashling's 12th man, 13 year old Seb Cross ended up guesting for Salthill and making their top score of 14
