Rogate v Ashling

17th July 2005

Ashling 225-6, Rogate 110-4

Nick Loubser 124

A hot and dry day in the lovely setting of Rogate produced a pitch so flat and docile that 335 runs were scored for the loss of only ten wickets all day. Ashling won the toss and elected to bat with Nick Loubser and James Ford taking the opening honours. It was quickly clear that Nick was in sparkling form and James showed further evidence of his new-found maturity as he settled into a supporting role, contributing 12 in an opening stand of 69. Simmonds (8), Sleep (16), Lawrence (1), and Colley (11) all took turns at playing second fiddle in the Nick Loubser show as Nick amassed 124 including three sixes and seventeen fours. Bob Traylen remained 3 not out and Chris Judd even managed 11 not out despite only facing four deliveries, despatching the first ball he received back over the bowler's head for a straight six!

Ashling's total was always going to be too much for Rogate, who made no more than a token early effort at chasing the runs. Steve Harvey (6-2-17-0), Chris Judd (8-2-21-1), Stuart Edwards (5-1-22-0), Ian King (4-1-15-1), Rob Lawrence (4-0-20-1), James Ford (3-1-9-1), Nick Loubser (2-0-4-0) and Matt Sleep (1-1-0-0) all had a go at the Rogate batting, but in truth a major breakthrough never looked likely with the admirable Paddy Clough remaining at the wicket throughout, scoring 58 not out. There was just time in the last over for the seven-year old C. Jackson to make his debut, scoring 3 not out - a big future awaits!
