Old Hambledonians v Ashling

7th June 2009

Old Hambledonians 136-6 dec, Ashling 137-2

Ashling won by 8 wickets

Ashling’s current run of good form continued as they cruised to victory at Old Hambledonians with Nic Loubser scoring his third consecutive half-century.

There was rain in the air, and having won the toss Paul Colley decided to offer Hambledonians first knock. Tom Ballingal (9-6-14-1), Craig Mason (9-2-31-1) and Matt Sleep (10-5-13-2) did most of the bowling in this old-fashioned timed game, with Nic Loubser (4-0-28-2) chipping in towards the end as Hambledonians belatedly tried to step on the accelerator. The Ashling bowlers had the batsmen pinned down for long periods, and the 136 for 6 in two and a half hours was slow progress with only Johnson (32) making a major contribution.

As the weather perked up Ashling opened with Nic and James Ford. This pair got after the bowling from the start, and James was the unfortunate victim of an astonishing one-handed catch on the boundary after racing to 26. Matt Sleep (23 not out) offered good support to Nic, whose 75 not out included three sixes and ten fours. Ashling passed the required total with fourteen overs still available and retired to the Bat and Ball for well-earned refreshment.
