Ashling v Guildford Varsity 14th May 2006 Guildford 73 (A. Kenyon 13, R. Lawrence 4 for 5) After three postponements the 2006 season finally got under way on a chilly and damp West Ashling field. Recent mowing of long grass saw the outfield covered in hay despite the best efforts of the early arrivals to clear it. Ashling batted first, and after the early loss of Paul Colley, given out lbw and a quick and useful 24 from debutant Webb, Matt Sleep and Nick Loubser set about adding 83 for the third wicket before Sleep went for 53 including four sixes and four fours. Nick Loubser was never in top form but his 34 was a useful contribution. Both Rob Lawrence (29) and Craig Mason (33 not out) made further progress before Ashling closed their innings on 200 for 5 Guildford never looked
like getting near the total, and Evans (1-12, Evans 0-16
and Harvey 1-10) proved difficult to get away. Wickets
fell steadily and Mason (2-7) and Lawrence (4-5) were
able to clear up a long tail which had long given up on
chasing the total |
