Ashling v Falling Leaves

6th August 2006

Falling Leaves 252-8, Ashling 102 all out

Matt Stone 2-21, Matt Sleep 28

This was a new fixture for the club, and in truth, for future reference they were a bit strong for us! Leaves won the toss and elected to bat, and when Hanson was run outfor a duck in the third over following a comic (for us) mix up over calling things looked rosy. Morrissey (no not that one) and Haden fell cheaply, but Galea was doing some big scoring at the other end. By the time the fourth wicket fell with Strutter out for 27, there were 164 runs on the board and lots of overs left. Young Metz still had time to make a quick 45 before Leaves closed on 252 for 8 from their 40 overs. Ashling used six bowlers, but only young Matt Stone had any real success (7-0-21-2) with the rest of the wickets being shared around somewhat expensively.

We were never likely to approach the required total, and with the normally reliable Nic Loubser skying one to point on 4 we were up against it from the start. Rob "no match subs" Lawrence (24) and Matt Sleep (28) made a fist of it for a while, and Barratt (15) wagged the tail for a little while. In the end though, Falling Leaves needed only 21 overs to see us off.
