Ashling v Chidham & Hambrook Hawks 26th July 2009 Ashling won by 117 runs Ashling cruised to victory over their local rivals on a cloudy and damp day in West Ashling. Ashling batted first, and after the early departure of Chris Cranna for 1, Nic Loubser (69) and Matt Battans (38) made rapid progress taking the score to102-1 after only 12 overs. Battans perished after going for one big hit too many, and Loubser was soon the victim of another dubious lbw call. After that wickets fell regularly with only Neville (21) and Harvey (10) getting into double figures. 75 year old Derek Grieshaber was the not out batsman at the end as Ashling posted 191. C. Dungar took 4-22 and was backed up by Cheshire's 3-33. The Hawks batsmen struggled from the start against the Ashling attack. Craig Mason returned 4 for 9 from 8 overs and youngster Henry Slatter took 3 for 22. Matt Battans was a success as stand-in wicket keeper taking three sharp catches and conceding no byes or leg byes. Ashling thus complete an unbeaten June and July!
