Ashling v Aldwick 29th May 2011 Ashling won by 37 runs Two oustanding performances with the bat were the key to this victory. Nic Loubser made Aldwick pay for dropping him at first slip early in the innings by going on to make 66 while Simon Hutchin continued to show a lot of promise by making a useful 23 before perishing to first slip without moving his feet. The real highlight of the afternoon came when Tom Ballingal found himself at the crease in the 30th over, and by the close was 66 not out including five sixes and five fours. 195 looked a formidable total on our notoriously slow outfield. Aldwick's openers Rutter and Bradbury seemed content to score slowly, and although they had reached 79 without loss, more than half of the alotted overs had gone. A brief interlude of the most illegal bowling action seen on the ground since Dan Cooke (Jack Stevenson) couldn't disguise the fact that accurate bowling from Tom Ballingal, Adam Shaul, Steve Harvey, Cahrlie Colley, Henry Slatter and Nic Loubser had left Aldwick with a lot to do. After Harvey had possibly inadvisedly removed Bradbury, the big-hitting Lodge arrived and proceded to accelerate the scoring rate, but a finely judged catch in the deep by Adam Shaul saw him off for 29 and the game was up. Oddly, Stokes continued to bat as if the draw was an option and remained 32 not out at the end with Aldwick well short of the required total.
