Ashling v Tangmere 2nd July 2006
A beatiful summer's day greeted both teams, and when Ashling won the toss there was no doubt that batting was the best option. Nic Loubser batted through 30 overs for his 106, Paul Simmonds played his best inning for years, and a quickfire 45 from Matt Sleep meant that Tangmere were never likely to win this game. The opening wicket stand of 137 may well be a record. For a while it looked
like Tangmere might be on for a miracle as Murray and
Charlesworh put on 77 for the first wicket, looking
dangerous in the process. Even after Loubser got amongst
the wickets when Parris joined Charlesworth Tangmere
mounted a second offensive. The match turned when
Chrlesworth was caught in the deep by Mick Bleach and the
last six wickets fell for only 23. Local youngster Matt
Stone made his debut in this game, and while he had no
luck with the bat, his late figures of 3.2-0-16-3 suggest
a promising future. |
