Ashling v Slindon

7th August 2005

Ashling 108-9 (40 overs), Slindon 112-3 (22.2 overs)

Rob Lawrence 23

Ashling were well and truly walloped on a day when both teams were pleased to be playing following a very wet week. Ashling batted first but sadly everyone chose the same day to be out of touch as a steady procession of batsmen trooped back to the pavilion. Five wickets (Loubser, King, Colley, Sleep and Jones) fell for only 32 runs and Craig Mason (18) was the first man to make any sort of impression. The tail wagged to a certain extent and James Ford (10), Rob Lawrence (23), debutant Colin Williams (15 including a huge six) and James Ward (3) ensured that Ashling had some sort of total to defend.

When Craig Mason removed opening batsman Dunlop caught behind off the second ball of the innings it looked like the miracle might occur, but Clarke (48), Ball (28) and Nassarian (21) had little trouble in picking off the runs and the win was ensured with nearly eighteen overs to spare.
