Ashling v Old Hambledonians 11th June 2006 The long, dry grass in the outfield meant that runs were always going to be hard to come by, but Ashling found any sort of progress very difficult. Steve Harvey batted 15 overs for his 5 runs, and even Nic Loubser found the runs hard to come by. After 20 of the allotted 40 overs had been bowled, Ashling were 48 for 4. Matt Sleep fell for a disappointing 7 and only a late partnership between Paul Colley (21 n.o.) and recent South African find Rob Bush (19 n.o.) offered any sort of challenging total at all. As in recent weeks Ashling struggled for a cutting edge in their bowling. Only the veteran Grieshaber managed to pin OH down, and Tomkins (46) built his innings well after a couple of close umpiring calls early in his innings. Although Ashling stuck at their task well, and had the opposition into their lengthy tail, Hambledonians closed in on the Ashling total and hit the winning runs with an over to spare. |
