Ashling v Lavant Wednesday 11th June 2008 (Twenty/20) Asling 110-9, Lavant 101-9 Ashling won by 9 runs Ashling took on Lavant on Wednesday night in one of their few evening fixtures in what turned out to be an evenly contested game. Ashling skipper Paul Colley won the toss against all predictions and chose to bat, he may have wished to reconsider his bold move to open the innings as his first ball reared up and the subsequent pull shot was well taken at wide mid off. Not a great start, however the rest of the batsman moved forward with Jimmy Taylor hitting some good shots before perishing. Fergus Maclehose showed that form is temporary, class is permanent with some delightful strokes and the overall batting effort was greatly helped by a Lavant loaned player Nick Williams who helped push along the score to 110. The Lavant openers of Burford and Brooker took some chances against some steady bowling and kept the score going at the required run rate, but Ashling kept plugging away and slowly the wickets started to come. Williams on debut bowled with fire and bounce, Maclehose was almost unplayable with Taylor adding some inswing variation. Ashling youngster Henry Slatter proved to have too much guile and variation with his spin as Lavant started to falter. Good outfielding kept the pressure on and in the end the Ashling machine rolled on to another well fought victory. |
