Ashling v Arundel Estates 20th July 2008 Arundel Estates 184-7 (MacLehose 2-24) Ashling won by 22 runs A swashbuckling 121 undefeated by Fergus MacLehose was the highlight of this first-rate game of cricket played out on a lovely sunny day on an unusually docile wicket. Fergus' innings included nine sixes and nine fours, and at one time had Ashling wondering whether they had an adequate supply of cricket balls. On any other day Matt Sleep's 63 not out (three sixes and five fours) would have been the batting highlight. All of this came after Nic Loubser missed out once again, playing down the wrong line for 5, while Steve Harvey (6) did his party piece of hanging around for 13 overs wearing out the opening bowlers whilst not actually scoring. 206 looked to be a winning total, but this was a flat and true pitch, and Arundel had batsmen Unfortunately for
Arundel, virtually all of their batsmen played themselves in, and then
got themselves out. Seven Ashling bowlers toiled away without
ever really getting on top, while Arundel couldn't quite find a winning
partnership. The result was never certain until a few overs from
the end when a flurry of wickets saw the Arundel effort peter out short
of the required total. |
