Aldwick v Ashling

1st June  2008

Ashling 158-7 (40 overs); Alwick 141-9 (40 overs)

Ashling won by 17 runs

Sleep 44; MacLehose 2-15

Paul Colley still can't call correctly so Ashling had to bat first on a positively soggy wicket which was cutting up like a rugby pitch in January.  Matt Sleep made a solid start, and although Chris Cranna departed cheaply, Jimmy Taylor got his head down and took the score on to 45 before he holed out on 23.  Useful contributions from Loubser (13) who was unlucky to be adjudged lbw, Mason (31) and MacLehose (26) helped Ashling post a total of 158.  Matt Sleep was unlucky to fall short of his fifty, picking out a fielder on the boundary six short of the mark.

Sharp bowling from Charlie Matthews (8-1-19-1) and Max Gunning (4-0-21-1) meant that Aldwick struggled to get to grips with the required run rate.  Fergus MacLehose pinned them down still further, and wickets fell steadily.  Disciplined bowling by Loubser and Sleep gave nothing away, and Aldwick were well short at the end.
